Nizhny (Lower) Novgorod is a fairly large city that is located at the confluence of the Oka and Volga rivers. The city has more than 1.2 million residents and is the sixth-largest city in Russia.

The city was founded by Prince Yuri II on the 4th of February 1221. The city's Kremlin is surrounded by a 2-kilometre wall that boasts 13 towers and its entire length can be walked by tourists.
